What Is BodySpex.com?
BodySpex.com is an online resource where people with health and fitness goals can track your weight, body fat, BMI, metabolism, exercise, nutrition, and more. Our BodySpex scales are linked to the web site, so test results can be viewed privately on each member’s page. BodySpex.com also serves news, information and advice from a community of knowledgeable fitness professionals and enthusiasts.

What’s A BodySpex Scale?
A BodySpex scale is a professional body fat and body composition analyzer that generates vital fitness indicators, like weight, body fat %, BMI, metabolism, lean mass and fat mass. These results are automatically uploaded to a secure, personalized, private account on BodySpex.com. BodySpex scales are placed in Health Clubs, schools, and select locations.

What Is Body Fat %?
Simply stated, Body Fat % is the percentage of your body that is fat. Your body is made of muscles, bones, organs, and fat. All of these are important to health, including fat. We all need a certain amount of fat to maintain our health. Unfortunately, the body continues to create and store fat whenever it is given excess calories. Excessive body fat can lead to a number of serious health problems. According to the US Surgeon General, combatting “overweight and obesity” is the number one priority for disease prevention..

Why Should I Track Body Fat
When people say they want “to lose weight,” what they really want is “to lose fat.” Reducing your body fat is a process—it will only happen over time and through a proper program of diet and exercise. It is a journey, and tracking your progress reveals the positive results of your efforts and keeps you motivated. If you are committed to achieving  your health and fitness goals, keeping track of your body fat is the best way to get there.

What Is BMI?
Body Mass Index or BMI is a rough indicator of a body's “fatness.” It's a ratio of your height and your weight. Because of the generic nature of this ratio, it is not the most useful of piece of information. Some individuals may be muscular and fit, but according to BMI, still be considered overweight. The Center For Disease Control has information on BMI on their website at www.CDC.gov.

What Is Metabolism?
Metabolism is your body burning calories. Your Basal Metabolic Rate, or BMR, represents the number of calories your body would burn in a single day without exercise. As you increase your exercise and build muscles, you increase your metabolism.

What Is BIA?
Bioelectric Impedance Analysis, or BIA, is an advanced method for measuring body fat. It is fast, easy and accurate and has been used in medical facilities for years. During a test, the system passes a slight electrical signal through the body. Because muscle and fat tissue differ in their conductive properties,  the system can measure the resistance (impedance) to the signal and determine what percent of your body is fat.

Is BIA Testing Safe?
Absolutely.
The electrical current passing between the footpads is harmless, you won’t even feel it. As a precaution, however, pregnant women and persons with pacemakers and other internal electrical devices should not use the body fat testing mode on the BodySpex Scale. It is recommended they not remove their shoes but take the ‘Weight Only" test.

How Accurate Is BIA Body Composition Testing?
Under proper test conditions, the BodySpex scale is accurate to within 1.5 % of the hydrostatic dunk tank method of body fat testing.  (Fluctuations in your body’s hydration influence results. Review the
BodySpex Testing Tips to find out how to achieve consistent results.)  More important than an absolute meaasurement, is the relation between this week’s results and those of previous tests.

How Long Does A Test Take?
Your first test on a BodySpex Scale will take approximately two minutes. Because the scale remembers your settings, subsequent tests will be less than a minute. To be sure your scale settings are accurate, you can confirm them here.

How Often Should I Test?
Membership includes one test per day; however, most people test once or twice a week. See Testing Tips for the best way to get consistent results. As often as you test, you should review your results here on BodySpex.com.

Why is BodySpex better than my scale?
Old-fashioned scales only measure weight. The BodySpex scale measures both weight and body composition—the amount of fat versus other tissue. Body composition presents a much clearer picture of health and fitness. Secondly, your progress is tracked automatically here on BodySpex.com. You’ll find tracking to be essential in achieving your health and fitness goals.

Do I Have To Take My Shoes And Socks Off?
The complete BodySpex test including body fat % must be taken in bare feet. Yes, that means no shoes OR SOCKS. We do however offer a precise ‘Weight Only’ test that may be taken with shoes on.

What Does BodySpex Testing And Membership Cost?
Monthly membership is currently only $5, which includes one test per day and use of all features on BodySpex.com. Get started now with our Special Rate annual membership, an entire year of BodySpex for only $20.00. Top
